What is Scalp Micro Pigmentation (SMP)?2021-06-30T16:44:00-04:00

Scalp Micro Pigmentation or SMP (aka a hair tattoo) is a non-invasive treatment that uses detailed micro-needles to deposit pigment into the scalp. The result creates the appearance of tiny hair follicles that help thicken and restore the look of fuller hair.

How Much Does SMP Cost?2021-06-30T16:55:13-04:00

Each hair loss treatment plan is tailored to the specific needs of each client. Depending on how extensive the hair loss is, the cost of the treatment ranges between $1,500 – $5,000. Schedule your FREE consultation today and our team will discuss your hair loss treatment goals and provide a personalized price quote.

Is SMP the Same Thing as a Tattoo?2021-06-30T17:07:58-04:00

We use the term “hair tattoo” because it’s easy to “get.” However, although SMP is similar, it is not the same as a tattoo.  Our SMP procedure uses tattoo equipment, but the pigment is administered with a needle approximately 75% smaller than typically used for a tattoo. The technique to replicate tiny hair follicles is achieved with pointillism, or dots, which gives the illusion of a thicker, fuller, denser, head of hair.

How Long Does SMP Take?2021-06-30T17:13:21-04:00

For most clients, the SMP process consists of two to four sessions to complete the treatment, depending on the extent of their hair loss. Each session lasts approximately two to four hours and can be scheduled two to three weeks apart.

How Long do the Results Last?2021-06-30T17:17:17-04:00

This answer is …. it depends. Lightening of the ink does happen over time. We recommend that our clients come in for a touch-up to restore any faded color and freshen up their look.

Does SMP Hurt?2021-06-30T17:19:44-04:00

We’d describe it more as “uncomfortable.” For most clients, the pain minimal and is considered to be less painful than getting traditional tattoos.

What color hair and complexion is best for SMP?2021-06-30T17:24:37-04:00

The quick answer is … it doesn’t matter! The SMP Artists at Five O’Clock Ink will match the shade of our pigment to a wide range of hair and skin tones. Whether you are Caucasian, African-American, Hispanic, Asian, or Pacific Islander with black, brown, blond or grey hair, scalp micro pigmentation can work for you.

SMP for Long Hair?2021-06-30T18:42:12-04:00

If you’re looking to make your hair look fuller, SMP can add the illusion of density to a head with long hair. In fact, many women are signing up for SMP when they decide that thinning hair isn’t the look they’re going for.  However, it’s recommended that clients keep their hair short or buzzed when undergoing SMP to re-establish their hairline.

Where is Five O’Clock Ink Located?2021-06-30T18:43:51-04:00

Does SMP work on Scaring?2021-06-30T18:46:04-04:00

Is there a Consultation Cost?2021-06-30T18:47:49-04:00

What are the Dos & Don’ts After SMP?2021-06-30T18:56:26-04:00

Our tried and true advice to keep your scalp micro pigmentation treatment looking its best is to AVOID:

  • chlorinated pools, saunas, steam rooms, and tanning beds for 28 days after your scalp micropigmentation treatment
  • scrubbing, shampooing or shaving over the treated area for 4-5 days after your scalp micropigmentation treatment
  • Rogaine (topical minoxidil) should not be administered during treatment or for 30 days after your final session.
