What is scalp micro pigmentation?

Scalp micro pigmentation is a hair follicle replication procedure. Similar to a tattoo, micro-needles are used to deposit ink pigments into your scalp resembling tiny hair follicles. Those pigments create the illusion of a denser head of hair. Scalp micro pigmentation is an excellent solution for anyone who wants long-term results without the hassle of daily maintenance.

Who is a good candidate for scalp micropigmentation?

Scalp micropigmentation is ideal for individuals with:

  • A receding hairline
  • Areas where hair is thinning
  • Partial or total baldness
  • Various forms of cancer
  • Alopecia
  • Scarring

What is the process of scalp micropigmentation?

To begin the process, schedule a consultation with your selected SMP practitioner. During the consultation, the SMP practioner meets with you to explain the process, understand your expectations, review hairline options and styles that will work best for you, answer questions, and provide post-care guidance. You should feel confident after your consultation that all your questions were answered and that you received all the info you need to ensure that the process is safe and successful. Then, the SMP procedure is scheduled.

You’ll have approximately two to four sessions of treatment before you’re finished. Each session lasts around two to four hours. You’ll go back for a new session every couple of weeks until your desired results are achieved. Maintenance may be needed, but not for many years.

General Procedural Guidelines

There are some basic guidelines to follow before and after each round of scalp micropigmentation treatment.

Before

Shower before your appointment. After each treatment, avoid getting your scalp wet for several days.

Between Treatments

Avoid swimming, steam rooms, saunas, and hot showers. Excessive time spent exposed to water or steam may delay the progress.

Wear a hat right after your treatment if you’re going to be outside a lot. Protect your scalp from the sun. The less exposure you have to the sun, the longer your results will last.

Moisturize your scalp every day.

After

You’ll need to continue to protect your scalp for a full month after your final treatment. This means no swimming, steam rooms, saunas, or hot showers.

In addition to avoiding the heat, you’ll need to use SPF 30-50 sunscreen on your scalp. While this is imperative for the first month after your treatment, it’s highly recommended to continue using SPF on your scalp. Doing so will protect your head from the sun, and prevent the scalp micropigmentation from prematurely fading.

Sweat is another risk factor when having scalp micropigmentation. For the first five days after your final treatment, it’s best to avoid heavy exercise.
Begin moisturizing the treated area four days after your final treatment.

How much does scalp micropigmentation cost?

Scalp micro pigmentation treatments aren’t the least expensive hair loss solution, but the lasting, long-term results justify the price. The exact cost will be determined by your SMP practitioner at your consultation. But treatments generally range in price from $1000 to $5,000.

How long does scalp micropigmentation last?

If you properly care for your scalp, your scalp micropigmentation treatment should last for years. However, the color does fade over time since the scalp naturally exfoliates itself. That exfoliation slowly strips the pigmentation away.
